Columbian Exchange
AGMSPRITE ANALYSIS
During the Columbian Exchange, art was not necessarily a big commodity being traded. There was in fact little emphasis on art or literary merit. Afterward, there was a huge increase in worldly trade and with that comes exchange of scholarly ideas in such subjects as literacy, philosophy, art, and etc. Many of the products grown in the Americas like sugarcane, grapes, and many other vegetables took hold the landscape within the Americas. This trade system is the first to connect all major continents; by geographic means the world is now connected thorough a single system that non before it had done. This can still be seen today as nations continue to trade between themselves across the globe. We, now as a species, have knowledge of each other's existence which before the columbian exchange and Christopher Columbus, no one dared dream that there would other people living across the great blue. Now, with the Columbian Exchange becoming as profitable as it was, different nations began to see and there in lays this need to increase military forces for further explorations and conguering of native peoples. This was needed in order to gain more territory to build these plantations to make the products for trade. This also sheds light of the beginning of the imperalism movement where courtries began to see native people as inferior in both in the Americas and Africa. These nations felt the need to "father" these peolpe and bring them up to current times. However, not without using their resources and servitude to their gain. This idea of inferiority still somewhat exist in our world today, however, in what we call racism where these indiviuals are inferior due to their skin color.
Now, socially, the Columbian Exchange revealed that being white was often better than being black. In the social pyramid, generally slaves were the lowest, however, in places like Brazil, slaves could often gain their freedom easliy and join the government offices. This is not the case in places like America where slaves were considered less than animals. Only recently have they gained equality in terms of both social and political freedoms. Furthermore, slavery still exists today in many parts of the world. It has not been completely aboloshed by any means. With mentioning politcal freedoms, the Columbian Exchane also set the tone for how little politcal freedom slaves had. They generally had no rights in the eyes of the government, however there are special cases like Brazil for they were supplied with a continued amount of slaves. In America, this was not the case, with their supply of slaves cut off, slaves became more valuable which deepened the need to keep them in a place where they had no freedom. As mentioned earlier, it was only recently that "African Americas" gained their full freedom with the Civil Rights Movement. In other places, slaves still do not freedoms that have occured in America or Brazil.
Now religiously, many countries within the Americas mixed African culture within their customs and religious traditions. This allowed a swift turnover when slaves were brought to the Americas. Today, more often in South America, do the religions that are practiced influence from both African slaves and the native indians. However, in the U.S. many so to eradicate much of the African customs like voodoo but thess practices are still alive and most famously in New Orleans. Within the Columbian Exchange, one of the aspects that were exchanged were ideas such as the scienific revolution and the views of enlightenment thinkers. Much of those ideas are what sparked revolutions in many areas in the Americas. Also, many of the ideas of that time period are practiced to this day. Another aspect was indeed weapons or technology like gunpowder, cannons, and guns that were never seen before within the Americas. One could also say that disease was also a honorary weapon indirectly used by the Europeans to gain the empty territories the natives who had quickly died off due to disease like small pox. Although, these diseases exist today, innovation has invented vaccines to help cope with these deadly viruses.
Lastly, the Columbus trade system was all about economy. While the Europeans stressed mercantilism, this system provided an exchange of animal, food, weapons, ideas, and people. While trade overseas stille exists today, its been modified to fit the needs of every nation. During this time period, the push to make products fast, easy, and cheap to be put back on the Columbus trade system. This is similar to the industrial revolution which occurs later in history. In many countries, laborers have gained certain rights by the use of unions that protect themselves from maltreatment while slavery still exists in many other nations to drive their economies.
