Mongolian BackgroundThe Mongols lived in the northern steppes of china, where life cold, harsh, barren and flat. The steppes are far to cold and dry to grow crops, therefore they were pastoralists, people who live off of live stock. They were a very brutal merciless group of people that were separated into multiple factions.

Cases of Mongol Interaction With Other States
Mongols and Song ChinaInterestingly, the Mongols were allied with the Song dynasty back when the Mongols attacked northern china (Jin dynasty). Northern China was one of the three Chinese kingdoms at the time and they were all at war with each other. When the Song took over northern china a Mongol ambassador was killed, which cause them to declare war. The Mongols took Song China, with a large part due to new Muslim Catapults that they acquired from the silk road.

Mongols and PersiaAlthough they eventually attack and conquered Persia, the Mongolians most benefited from peacfull interactions with the Middle East They became extremely wealthy from trading with Persia, due to their control of the silk road. From trading the Mongols gained new innovations that helped them expand to their full potential. The Muslim catapult that they used to help take of Song china is a good example of this. Not only was machinery from trade use to conquer, but diseases such as the Bubonic Plague also help them gain more territory.

Mongols and Eastern EuropeThe Mongol interaction with Europe is, for the most part, all about control. But interestingly enough, Europe benefited greatly from the interaction. They First attack Russia. After they conquered it, they loosened their grip greatly. This plus new Techonogly from the war allowed the Russians to grow.
The Mongols also attacked a city in the northern end of the Caspian sea. In a last stand effort they launched bodies infected with the Bubonic plague over the wall. This spreed all over Europe and decimated the population. Ironically Europe before was over populated, which means the plague actually helped the economy regrow.
