Final Summary
As mentioned in the effects section, the Haitian Revolution affected many factors on the AGMSPRITE spectrum. In terms of geography, the Haitian slaves destroyed all of their farms and crops when they revolted, ruining the farmland and landscape. Socially, however, those on the lower side became higher. The slaves who were forced to work in harsh conditions and treated with extreme prejudice had now risen above those who had treated them this way. Politically, the Haitian revolters had thrown off French colonial rule, and they became the second independent-republic in the Americas. The economy, however, was hurt due to the destruction of the farmland and crops, on which the Haitian economy was largely based off of. The effects of this revolution were substantial. To those who were also oppressed throughout the world, it was a sign of hope. To the whites, it was a sign of warning. In terms of the continuities seen through the Haitian Revolution, one continuity is the separation of classes seen throughout history. In almost every civilization, there was that distinct split between the wealthy and the poor. In the Haitian Revolution, the whites dominated (which can also be seen throughout history.) A change that took place, however, was the way people viewed those of the lower class, including slaves. Because this revolution was successful, it sent a message around the world that those on the bottom are capable of prevailing on top. After gaining independence, Haiti declared all citizens equal, regardless of race, color, or class. This inspired many other revolutions to come, and also was the basis for the abolitionist movement, despite its involvement in the creation of even more slave states.
